The Native Forest Foundation was started by Damitha Rajapakse at his home in Gampaha, Sri Lanka. Damitha was born in Alawwa and raised in Kandy. In 1993 he established the Integrated Livestock Development Association to help integrate organic farming concepts among rural families. The Native Forest Foundation emerged from Damitha’s passion for planting trees and preserving the cultural ecological heritage of his country. In 2008 he was selected by the Inspired Individual Initiative as a social entrepreneur whose work is creating positive social change in the world. Today Damitha runs the organization with the help of his family and volunteers. He is excited about continuing his work to protect the ethnobotanical heritage of Sri Lanka.

Damitha Rajapakse meets with local Sunday School groups to teach them about the cultural and ecologcial heritage of native Sri Lankan fruit trees.
